Who Are We?
The Corridor Counts (TCC) is a collective of community advocates, teachers, laborers, public servants, youth advocates, anti-violence advocates, professionals from all areas of service, and other community members. TCC was formed during the summer of 2013 and has grown into a viable grassroots organization with firm community ties.
Our mission is “to evaluate what is needed by the communities in The Corridor and then take actions which are consistent with what is in the best interest of those communities.” Our focus is “to lead by bringing about change to meet the identified needs”.
What Is The Corridor?
The Corridor encompasses several communities of color in Nassau County, New York. These communities include Hempstead, Roosevelt, Uniondale, Freeport, Lakeview, Westbury, New Cassel, Elmont, Valley Stream, Floral Park, Baldwin, and similar communities. These communities, which contain a significant concentration of African American, Latino, West Indian, Caribbean, and South Asian residents, have been consistently ignored for too long and often report feeling neglected. It is our belief that together we represent a major voting force with shared interests and similar needs.
How Do We Work?
Through mutual respect, cooperation, and sincere dialogue, TCC seeks to work toward finding insightful and lasting solutions to existing concerns in The Corridor and to formulate and implement future plans for the uplift of all people in The Corridor. The decision-making process of TCC is centered around a shared sense of community and an aspiration to increase the quality of life for those in The Corridor. TCC seeks to act on and engage in educational, public, political, social, and economic projects aimed at positively affecting those impacted by past acts of neglect, disregard, and governmental mismanagement within The Corridor. These projects are divided and taken up through TCC’s seven work groups, with each group led by a co-convener. Learn more about our work groups in the next section.
How Can You Join?
The key aspect that makes TCC work is through its members investing themselves, their skills, their time, and their resources in working on issues, projects, and discussions. TCC members are those who make this investment and commit themselves to this work for the collective good of The Corridor and the people that we seek to benefit.
Accordingly, TCC asks its members to submit a yearly membership payment of $50 that is due between the months of December and January in order to be in good financial standing in the organization.

TCC works with a consensus model and seeks to make its decisions without marginalizing its members and declaring winners and losers on questions presented, actions contemplated, and policies set. It is through this style of decision making that all voices will be recognized, heard, and embraced. TCC encourages open and truthful discussion and debate through which every member will be able to fully air their opinions and not fear being discounted. This process is intended to empower TCC and to allow those decisions made and positions adopted to be fully owned by those who have the best interests of The Corridor communities and The Corridor residents at heart.
